Day 5 Zell am See - Into Slovenia
Crossing the Alps - From high alpine to the Julian frontier.
Day five is the turning point of the journey. Leaving Zell am See in the morning, the route climbs into the high Alps on Grossglockner High Alpine Road with deliberate hairpins, sharper peaks, and possible late-May snow walls along the road edge. At more than 2,500 meters, this is the highest point of the full expedition, where the ride shifts from flowing valley rhythm to concentrated alpine focus. The descent through Heiligenblut into southern Austria softens the scenery without losing momentum, then continues via Lienz and Villach toward the border. Predil Pass marks the symbolic entry into Slovenia, where the Julian Alps rise ahead with a raw and less commercial feel. Arrival in Bovec marks the end of approach riding and the beginning of true arrival.
